Vineyards and winery

We cultivate our vines just as our ancestors taught us to.

Cooperativa Garriguella, Wine cellar de la DO Empordà, has approximately 160 hectares of vineyards planted in slate soils, with an irregular landscape caressed by the strong gusts of the tramuntana north wind and characterised by a Mediterranean climate. These climatic conditions are ideal for our low-yielding grapevines (average production of 2.5kg per vine), which are on average 70 years old.
We have incorporated advanced technology into our wine making process, while always respecting the environment.

We have the traditional Garnacha and Mazuelo red varieties complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Tempranillo, as well as the Garnacha red and white, Macabeo and Moscato white varieties, with an average annual grape production of 1.2 million kilos, from which around 800,000 litres of wine is produced.

The winery dates back to 1963 and has over 60 tanks of varying capacities, from 5,000 litres to 35,000 litres, all with temperature-control systems and inert blanketing systems using antioxidant gases. The underground aging room, with more than 150 French and American oak barrels with a capacity of 225 litres, makes it possible to keep the wine’s temperature constant throughout the year.
